FAQ’s
-
Yes. Maintaining the right humidity level is crucial for protecting your floors. Low or excessive humidity can cause cupping, cracking, rolling, and overall damage. The Hardwood Flooring Association recommends keeping indoor humidity between 40–60% to help preserve the beauty and stability of your hardwood floors.
-
We do our best to match your existing floor, and in most cases, achieve excellent results. However, due to the natural aging of wood and stain, an exact match isn't always possible. Different wood species age at different rates, which can slightly change the color over time.
-
We prefer that you are available at the start of the project to confirm details like stain color. After that, it’s up to you — you’re welcome to stay or leave as you’re comfortable.
-
Acclimating is the process of allowing wood flooring to adjust to the temperature and humidity conditions inside your home. This helps the flooring expand or contract naturally before installation, reducing the risk of gaps, cupping, or other issues later on.
-
Flooring should be stored as close to the installation area as possible to help it adjust properly. Acclimation time can vary depending on the humidity, but a good rule of thumb in Michigan is to allow about 72 hours before installation.
-
You’re welcome to remove the existing floor yourself if you’d like. If you prefer, Rivershores can handle the tear-out for you and it will be included in the total project cost.
-
You can move your appliances yourself if you prefer, or Rivershores can move them for you for an additional fee. Please note that Rivershores cannot disconnect or reconnect gas or water lines.
-
Wait at least 24 hours before any foot traffic (stocking feet only). For water-based finishes, floors are about 90% cured after 72 hours and fully cured in 7 days.
For oil-based finishes, full cure takes about 30 days.Furniture can be moved back carefully after 72 hours; rugs should wait until 7 days. Avoid using any cleaning products for the first 7 days — a damp cloth is fine if needed. We'll provide a maintenance guide with full care instructions.
-
While we seal off doors and archways where possible, some dust is unavoidable. Our standard dust collection system helps, but the amount of dust depends on the size of the project. If dust is a major concern, ask us about our Bona Kemi Automatic Dust Containment System for even better control.
