FEATURE OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER 2011
Strand Woven Mulberry, Palm and Poplar
In previous months, we’ve talked about our Strand Woven Bamboo and now have people wondering: If bamboo can be strand woven to make it so resilient, what about other woods? To answer your question, this month we’ll tell you about three other species of wood that Rivershores carries that are also strand woven.
Strand Woven Mulberry
Mulberry bushes are used in the silk industry. Once the silkworm ravages the mulberry leaves, the branches are trimmed back to promote new growth. Green Choice, our eco-friendly flooring supplier, diverts those trimmed off branches from the landfill and, using the same process
they use for bamboo, creates a beautiful flooring material instead– Strand Woven Mulberry!
Strand Woven Palm
There are millions of acres of coconut plantations around the world. When a coconut tree becomes too old, it stops producing fruit. The tree is then cut down and replaced with a new young tree. We take the soon-to-be disposed of coconut log and use it to create our Strand Palm flooring. It is extremely hard (almost twice the hardness of oak), has incredible character and beauty and is created from a reclaimed raw material.
Strand Woven Poplar
Poplar has an incredible “green story”…from the furniture making industry, our beautiful Mosaic flooring has emerged. Taking chunks and odd pieces of leftover poplar wood thrown away after crafting the wooden parts of fine furniture, Green Choice shreds the pieces into strips and uses the strand woven process to create our Mosaic “Autumn” and “Galaxy”. Two gorgeous selections for extremely durable, high character hardwood flooring!
